Wedding – Vow renewal card

cards, I do, vow renewal, wedding

On the weekend I attended a wedding that was actually a vow renewal ceremony, as the couple had been officially been married for some time but wanted to have their “big day”.  Which posed a little bit of a challenge on the card front!  I played around for a bit with the idea of I Do x 2.  Here’s what I came up with:

I do x 2

I chose the colours (Night of Navy, Very Vanilla) to match their wedding invitation.   A dark coloured card base can be a bit of a challenge when it comes to writing the message, so I used my labels framelits to make a nice space to write the message.

I was pretty happy with how it turned out – and it’s nice to have a little bit of spare time to be making cards again!

Thanks for reading

Hello

Today I wanted to show you a wine bottle tag I made to give to a good friend for his birthday.

Scallop tag topper wine bottle gift tag

I used an off-cut of Not Quite Navy card stock I had lying in a scrap pile, and cut the end with the scallop tag topper punch.   I used my 1 3/4 inch circle punch to make a hole for the bottle neck to go through, then scored to make the fold for the wine bottle cover.

The card stock was too wide to fit in the slot in the tag topper punch so I slid it over the plastic part of the punch, and then under the metal cutting part to make it work – leave me a comment below if that doesn’t make sense and I’ll try and explain better!   I then just cut diagonally from the edge of the scallop to the edge of the card stock to make the pointed shape.   This picture may give you a better idea:

And isn’t it perfect how one of the smaller dies from the labels framelits fits so perfectly inside the scallop topper tag punch?

The image here is from the Simply Sketched stamp set (a 2013-14 Stampin’ Up! hostess gift)

This gift coordinated nicely with one of the cards I made and showed you a few months ago:

Apothecary Art thank you cards

Apothecary Art, embossing, thank you cards

Hello – thanks for dropping by Caro’s Pretty Things!

I have been very lucky to have many people in my life I need to say thank you to recently.  So I sat down the other day to make a few thank you cards.   I wanted to do something a little out of my comfort zone and try and make some cards that would convey a little of how grateful I am to the recipients.

I used the largest image from the Apothecary Art stamp set cut out with my Labels framelits, and my embossing powders with VersaMark ink to make the stamped images really ‘pop’ off the page.

Here are the cards, I hope you enjoy.

Winter Frost 30th birthday card

30th birthday cards, Memorable Moments, Winter Frost

Hi

I have been looking at lots of Christmas cards on the internet using Stampin’ Up!’s Winter Frost designer series paper.  It is gorgeous paper and the cards are beautiful – but for some reason it doesn’t really scream ‘Christmas’ to me.   The paper also uses colours that are usually a bit out of my comfort zone.   So I set myself a challenge of using the paper for some non-Christmas cards.

Today I wanted to show you a card I made for a good friend’s 30th birthday.

Winter Frost & Memorable Moments 30th birthday cardThe card is Smoky Slate with Winter Frost DSP in Smoky Slate, Coastal Cabana and Pool Party.   The ribbon is some I saved from the wrapping on a present I was given.

The label and stamping uses the Memorable Moments stamp set, which has to be one of the most versatile sets in the current catalogue.   The outline of the label perfectly matches the Labels Framelits dies.   Here’s a close up of the label:

Memorable Moments 30th birthday

Stay tuned and I’ll show you some other non-Christmas cards I made with Winter Frost.

Thanks for reading

embossing, Stampin' Write Markers, Wildflower Meadow

Hello

Sorry for the long gap between posts.  Life has been a little hectic lately (to say the least!)   I haven’t had any chance to make any cards lately, but I do have a few photos to show you from the last time I managed to spend a few hours on my card making.

One of the card sets that most caught my eye in this year’s Stampin’ Up! catalogue was the Wildflower Meadow set – and it has a matching embossing folder!  Who could resist?

It is such a beautiful set and the extra depth from the embossing means you can get an amazing effect from the simplest card.

This card was just stamped with Whisper White ink on Crumb Cake card stock:

Wildflower Meadow - whisper white on crumb cake

I was thinking about how to ‘step it up a bit’ and decided to use my Stampin’ Write markets to add some highlights over the white ink:

Wildflower Meadow - white ink with markersIMAG0108

The markers over the white ink gives a really lovely, soft effect.  Here’s a close up which gives you a better idea:

IMAG0112

You can also use your markers to colour directly onto the stamp to give a multicolour effect:

IMAG0109Here’s one where I used the off-cut from a labels framelit to act as a border:

IMAG0110 I had such a lovely time playing with this stamp set.  I’ll show you some more of the results of my experimenting over the next few days.

Simply Sketched

Hello!  I hope you’re having a great day.

Today I wanted to show you a card I’ve made with one of my favourite stamp sets from the new Stampin’ Up! catalogue – Simply Sketched.   This is a hostess set so you can only get it by hosting a workshop or party (or doing a REALLY big order all by yourself!) I’d like to get back into doing a few workshops, so please let me know if you live in the Wollongong or southern Sydney area and would be interesting in hanging out with your friends and making cards 🙂

Here’s the card I made:

IMAG0187I used Crumb Cake as the base card with matching seam binding ribbon.   The bird is coloured with my Stampin’ Write markers.  The blue layer is from a pack of corrugated cardboard I bought at a $2 shop but I think this card would also work beautifully with some of the new Soft Sky card stock from Stampin’ Up!  The watercolour paper is cut out with a Labels Collection framelit.

Here are another couple I made:

Simply Sketched bird

IMAG0163See the ribbon on the last card?  You know those ribbons that are sewed into shirts to keep them onto coat hangers?  Those ribbons which, if you’re anything like me, you cut off before you wear them for the first time?  Well, this ribbon came off a tshirt I bought recently.   So don’t throw them away – see what you can make out of them!

Giftwrapping

40th birthday party, favourite things, gift cards, gift tag, gift wrapping

One of my favourite things to do is wrap a present.  I don’t know why, but something about choosing colours and playing with ribbon is very therapeutic.   And we are all about making things pretty here at Caro’s Pretty Things!

We recently went to a close friend’s 40th birthday party.   He is just a little bit into red wine (understatement of the year!) so of course we bought him a very nice bottle of red wine for his present.

Here’s the present all wrapped up.

photo-5I used my Labels collection framelits for the base of the gift tag and printed out an image ‘Keep Calm and Drink Red Wine’ I found on the web.   This was tied on with Bravo Burgundy ribbon from Stampin’ Up! (the same colour as the die cut label) – which seemed rather appropriate given the gift.

Hopefully he’ll enjoy the wine as much as I enjoyed wrapping it!

Another baby card

baby cards, cards, framelits

One of the saddest things for me about the end of the 2012-13 Stampin’ Up! catalogue was the retirement of the Two by Two stamp.  I loved that stamp for making baby cards!

There is another gorgeous baby one to replace it though (Fishin’ Around on p58 of the new catalogue).  Stay tuned – I may have to buy that one!

I wanted to show you a couple of the cards I made using Two by Two:

IMG_1400IMG_1399As well as being a super cute stamp, this is a good example of how a single image in a frame can work really well as a feature.

I used my Labels collection framelits to cut the background shapes.   The pink card is a good example of how you can use these framelits to make borders for added depth.

Thanks for reading.
