Happy New Year!

I’m back at my craft desk today after a nice break over Christmas and New Years.  I am visiting a close friend who has had a new baby next week so wanted to make a special card.

I have seen punch out baby drawer cards all over the Internet and have been itching to make one.  So here’s my version:

I used a top gold card blank (cut an A4 sheet in half vertically at 10.5cm) and then cut the shape from the bottom with 2 cuts of the curly label punch.  The drawers are 8cm x 2cm and embossed with my spotty folder for added texture.  The top of the drawers is 11cm x roughly 1.5cm (I just used up a scrap).

I used Sahara Sand card stock and sponged the edges with Blushing Bride.

The images are from the Baby Bundle set and the sentiment is from Nursery Necessities (both retired Stampin’ Up! but there are lots of cute baby sets in the current catalogue that would work just as well).

I cut out all the shapes.   One tip for cutting really tiny shapes like the curve of the coat hanger – if you have a marker the same colour as your card stock just colour around so it’s not obvious if you leave a bit for added strength:

It’s a good idea to position the clothes etc before you stick down the drawers – I stuck a few behind the drawers:

(I used dimensionals to stick on the drawers and mini glue dots for the fiddly little cut outs).

I hope you enjoyed that card – and hopefully my friend will too!!!

Thanks for reading.

Hello!

Today I want to show you some crafts I’ve been making ready to decorate the table on Christmas Day.  This is the first year I’ve hosted Christmas at my house, so wanted to make the table look nice.

I have made laminated and stamped Christmas placemats, Santa hat place setting cards and Santa napkin rings for each guest.

Kids cards, Star Wars cards, Star Wars Punch Art

Hello

My 6 year old and all his friends are obsessed with Star Wars at present.  There are a couple of Padawan birthdays coming up over next few weeks so I’ve been looking for some quick Star Wars cards to make.

Here they are in order of simplicity!!!

The lightsabers are made with the word window and jewellery punches.   The Death Star is a print out sized to fit my 1 3/4 inch circle punch. (I made it for this yoda card I made a few months ago).

The next one is basically the same but with the child’s name in Star Wars font – check out the cool tool at logo54.com/movie/starwars

I’m not sure you can really file the next card under “quick” but it was still pretty easy! And still didn’t take more than 10 minutes.

Darth Vader and Obi Wan are made from the owl punch.  Vader’s face is the owl’s vest turned upside down with some black fake pearls for eyes.

I made the cape with the curly label punch turned on its side and trimmed off at the sides:

I hope you enjoyed reading this.  And here’s hoping the little Jedis enjoy them too!

Post Card, Priority Mail, Stampin Up, teenage boy cards

Hello

I needed to make a card for a teenage boy on the weekend.  Always a slightly daunting thought. I have lots of stamps that are suitable for babies and young children, and teenage girls are covered – but I find teenage boy cards a bit of a challenge.

Here’s what I came up with:

Stampin Up post card stampI used Stampin’ Up’s post card background stamp as well as stamps from last year’s hostess set ‘Priority Mail’ for the happy birthday stamp and special delivery.  The card is Island Indigo with Crushed Curry details.

I added another post card on the inside of the card as a space to write a message.

Stampin Up post card stamp - card insertWhat do you think?  I’m not quite convinced it really worked, but I hope he likes it anyway!

Thanks for reading

Christmas in July, napkin ring, papercraft, Santa belt

Hello!

The last two posts I’ve showed you some of the craft I did for our recent delayed Christmas in July party.   Today I wanted to show you some more table decorations – this time Santa napkin rings!

photo-6

This idea came about when we were in a Christmas shop looking for Christmas crackers for our party.  I was looking at a Santa belt decoration and thought that it would make a great napkin ring.  I then went home and pulled out my punches to see whether I could come up with something similar.

The starting point was trying to figure out how to make the belt.   I tried my square punches and the decorative label punch but they weren’t quite right.  I then hit on the petite curly label and the curly label punch and they were perfect (all punches are by Stampin’ Up!).

A little while ago I showed you how to make a frame with a scallop punch and circle punch.   I used the same technique here to make Santa’s belt.   First, punch the petite curly label punch …

photo-2

… and then punch around it with the curly label punch:

photo-5

And hey presto – Santa’s belt buckle made out of glittery glimmer paper!

I then had to figure out how to make Santa’s shirt and belt.   I started out with a napkin and my pile of Riding Hood Red offcuts to see what width of red looked right with the buckle in the middle.    I ended up with a red piece 7.5cm wide and 21cm long.   After a bit of fiddling around trying to work out whether to thread the black through the belt or not, I decided it would look best (and be easier!!) to just stick the buckle over the top of the belt.  So the black strip for the belt needed to be slightly narrower than the buckle, which worked out to be 2.5cm wide and 21 cm long.

photo-3I then centred the black strip and stuck it down:

photo-4

I then folded a napkin into thirds and wrapped the card around so it was just slightly loose and stuck it down.   I used both sticky strip and snail adhesive to make sure it stayed stuck!

photo-7I stuck the buckle over the belt and “ta da” – a Santa napkin ring!  They looked very cute all lined up together.

photo-8

I think something like this could also work as a belly band on a gift card holder or gift box as well.  Perhaps just the black belt and buckle wrapped around a red box/card?

I must say I’d never thought of making a napkin ring out of card stock before! Funny how inspiration strikes in the strangest places.  I’m now starting to think about ribbons, flowers, brads … I need to throw some more dinner parties to come up with new decorating ideas!

Thanks for reading.
